Blur text effect

In this Flash tutorial you will learn how to create a blur text effect using timeline animation. This effect uses the same technique as the blur image effect, but you will blur text instead of an image.

Blur text effect

Step 1

Open a new Flash document with any stage dimensions. Select the Text tool with static text and type your message on the stage. I have used Impact font type with #A1D8FF colour, but you can use whatever font and colour you wish.

Step 2

Convert your text message into a symbol by selecting F8. Give your symbol an appropriate name, check movie clip box and click ok.

Step 3

Using the Selection tool (V) select your text message then choose the Filters tab at the bottom of the screen. Select the little blue plus sign and select 'Blur' from the drop down menu and then enter the following settings from the image.

*You could alternatively change the Blur Y to 100 & Blur X to 5. This will create a slightly different text effect.

**This tutorial is created in Flash 8, if you are using newer a version of Flash. The filters panel may be in a different place.

Step 4

On the timeline insert a key frame at frame 25 by pressing F6. And then select your image again using the selection tool (v) and change the blur x & y to 0. Now right click anywhere in between the 1st and 30th and create a motion tween. Your timeline should look like below:

Step 5

Test your movie clip ctrl + enter.

You should now have a blur text effect.
