Image as button in flash

This Flash tutorial will teach you how to create an image as a button. This effect is very quick and simple. For more information on buttons checkout the basic button tutorial. I have used a free stock image which is available at:

Image as button

Step 1

Open a new Flash document.
Import your image on the stage by selecting File > Import > Import to stage select your file then click open. I used an image of a car, but you can use whatever image you wish.

Step 2

Using the selection tool select your image and select F8 to convert it into a button. Give your button an appropriate name, check button, and click ok.

You can now treat you image as a button. To give your button an action, right click on it and select actions. You can for example open a url with your button.

Step 3 - optional

To acknowledge your image button has been selected, you can give it a mouse over effect. This will allow you to differentiate a standard image from your button.

Now double click on your button and you should notice the timeline changes. Select the down state and press F6 to insert a key frame.

Using the selection tool, select your button and then the free transform tool. Now decrease the size of your button slightly. This gives an effect when you click your button. You could alternatively use this effect at the over state.

Step 4

Test your movieclip Ctrl + enter.

You should now have an image button
