Png compression tools

I frequently use png images for web projects. Often when png’s are saved from Photoshop the file sizes can be large due to the image compression. The newer versions of Photoshop are however getting better at compression png images.

I use two free open source tools for png compression. These tools use image processing algorithms for reducing the file size significantly whiles also preserving the full alpha transparency. The results can save up to 70% depending on the image.

The first tool is ImageAlpha. You simply drag the image onto the right panel and ImageAlpha will automatically compress the image.

The second tool, ImageOptim, is similar but this one accepts jpeg images as well. Again simply drag the image on top of the panel.
