Git multi-line commit message

It is possible to write multi-line commit messages instead of one single line message. In the terminal you would type the following command.

git commit -m "this
> is a multi-line
> commit message"
As you can see above, instead of using a closing quotation mark, you would press the enter followed by this “>” symbol. This will put the commit message on a new line.

An alternative method is to use multiple -m symbols like the following command.
git commit -m “this is a multi-line” -m “commit message”
